Airbus' ties to Canada were deepened in October 2017 when Airbus sought to acquire a majority stake in the C Series Aircraft Limited Partnership (renamed Airbus Canada Limited Partnership in June 2019), the entity that manufactures and sells Bombardier's single-aisle C Series jets- rebranded the A220 Family, with its two versions designated the A220-100 and A220-300.  The partnership markets, manufactures and supports the A220 Family worldwide.

Description of the job

Reporting directly to the A220 Head of Engineering, the jobholder manages a team of Engineers and Technologists supporting the Avionics, Electrical/Wiring/EMC and Cabin Systems Work Packages of the A220 aircraft program. The jobholder will be responsible for management of multi-discipline engineering teams to ensure that aircraft systems meet the safety, reliability and economical program requirements. The jobholder will direct/control the activities of the Integration team involved in various engineering fields: systems design and integration, software development and certification, aircraft level integration, ARP4754. The jobholder will show leadership in order to achieve strategic initiatives, engage various internal and external stakeholders in meeting engineering commitments and provide management direction in support of various program initiatives (cost reduction, weight reduction, change management, and others).

In your role, you will:

  • Manage the systems engineering team performance and ensure deliverables are delivered on time, within budget to satisfy program expectations
  • Lead the Systems Engineering team in utilizing Key Performance Indicators and AES tools to improve department's performance and meet or exceed program requirements
  • Identify gaps in performance and implement corrective actions to ensure achievement of objectives
  • Work in a multi-disciplined operation to create an environment that promotes excellence, innovation, and mobilizes employees to continuously strive for improvement
  • Engage with engineering team to resolve key program emerging issues, and ensure cross functional teams are focused on timely resolution
  • Work with Airbus on cost reduction opportunities within a MFT (Multi-Functional Team) environment; work on knowledge sharing and adoption of best practices, and support the integration of the A220 program in the Airbus family
  • Develop mechanisms to improve performance and initiate improvements, changes or creation of new engineering processes and procedures; working closely with other stakeholders
  • Complete performance assessments, ensure team activities are executed, fostering development of team members, creating a forum for growth and development
  • Work with Finance and Program Office, be responsible for financial, material and personnel resource management; accountable for the accomplishment of operational plan and execution to departmental budget
  • Maintain industry knowledge and identifies new business opportunities.

As our ideal candidate,

  • You possess an Engineering degree, or equivalent relevant experience
  • You have a minimum of 15 years of related systems engineering experience
  • You are familiar with Avionics, Electrical or similar aircraft systems
  • You have a leadership experience in a IPDT System Work Package in one or more aircraft development programs
  • You have managed of one or more large or high priority projects, or those requiring high levels of integration or coordination with multiple departments/functions
  • You have good negotiation skills to be used in contractual discussion with Suppliers
  • You are verse in aircraft program development activities as well as sustaining engineering activities
  • You have strong project management skills, able to prioritize and align team members towards meeting priorities
  • You are resourceful and able to find creative ways to achieve desired outcome, adapting to changing situation and emerging obstacles,
  • You have an understanding and are familiar with AES activities, able to deploy continuous improvement initiatives
  • You have good oral and writing skills in English and French; able to simplify complex issues and summarize risks, key actions and next steps
  • You have demonstrated the ability to work in a team composed of individuals with various background and different culture
  • You must also be a person with initiative, strong sense of responsibility and good engineering judgment
  • You have good interpersonal skills, able to develop relationships with internal stakeholders and influence external stakeholders
  • You are a good communicator and are able to listen, coach and guide employees
  • You have strong financial management skills, able to define budgets and means to ensure its respect
  • You are able to leverage your knowledge of processes and your network to meet commitments
  • You are familiar with engineering offload activities, seeking cost reduction opportunities by offloading repetitive or low value added engineering tasks.
